The Truth about Gas

Oil Heat or natural gas? Not sure which is best for you?

Take a look at the facts and we believe you’ll see what so many others have already discovered – Oil Heat is the better choice.

  • Safe -- Heating Oil, unlike propane and natural gas, can't explode. In fact, heating oil will not burn in a liquid state. In order to light heating oil on fire, you must heat it above 140 degrees, the temperature at which it begins to vaporize.
  • More efficient – Oil Heat produces 40% more BTU’s than an equivalent amount of natural gas and 50% more BTU’s than propane.
  • Environmentally friendly– Despite all that you may have heard, Oil Heat causes no greater harm to the environment that gas. In fact today’s BioHeat® is even a step better, burning more efficiently, cleaner and sourced here in the United States reducing our dependence on foreign sources and cross ocean shipping.
  • Control – Let’s be honest, the Gas Company is a monopoly. When has a monopoly ever been the better choice? Oil Heat gives you the benefit of a sound competitive market with an ample choice of suppliers.
  • Cost – If there’s anything we’ve seen over the past year, it’s that energy prices move together. If oil goes up, gas goes up and vise-versa. Any claim you may read about one being lower than the other is probably based on a finite point in time -- eventually, the prices even out. More important is the opportunity Oil Heat presents to increase your efficiency and lower consumption.
  • Conversion expense – Converting from oil to gas is more expensive than you may be told. Look beyond the price of a heating system and be sure to include tank removal, gas pipe plumbing, hook-ups, changes to ducts and expensive chimney flue work.
  • Return on investment – The life expectancy of oil heating systems is about 30 years or more. Gas systems last half that time, usually under 15 years. The investment you make today in a more efficient lower consumption system will provide returns on investment over a much longer period of time. Besides, who wants to replace their heating system every 15 years?
  • No ugly meter – This one just plain speaks for itself.

The temperature of an oil flame is hotter than a gas flame, which means you get a warmer home faster.

  • Because of the hotter flame, Oil Heat heats water twice as fast as typical natural gas
  • Oil Heat produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions than natural gas
  • Residential oil burner particulate emissions are at near-zero levels
  • When measured in constant dollars, natural gas prices have increased due to expensive pipeline and utility costs
  • Oil Heat is neither flammable nor explosive

You may hear that natural gas is better for our environment….But it’s not.

Consider this -- the production of natural gas emits methane as a byproduct directly into our atmosphere. BioHeat® doesn’t and as a result is considerably better for our environment. In the very near future, as early as next summer, BioHeat® blends of just 12% will produce fewer emissions than natural gas does. But here’s the best part, it won’t add to the cost of heating your home.
