Did you know that April 22, 2019 marks the 49th annual Earth Day? It’s now a global event that celebrates our planet while recognizing the challenges we face to preserve it.
One small way for Westmore Fuel customers to get into the Earth Day spirit is to feel good about the fact that they are doing business with an environmentally responsible company that only delivers ultra-low sulfur B20 Bioheat®, which is cleaner than natural gas. Our customers have been receiving a 20% biofuel blend from us since 2008.
Westmore Fuel owns one of the largest independent terminals in the area. We don’t have to rely on others to guarantee the product we deliver. We test every gallon that comes off a barge or tanker. In fact, we have rejected entire barge loads for failing to meet our strict specifications.
Additionally, we also use only soybean oil to create the B20 blend of fuel that we deliver to our customers in New York and Connecticut. Our B20 burns cleaner, with fewer emissions, than natural gas, so it’s better for the environment, and in New York State, it entitles you to a 20¢-per-gallon tax credit.
Looking at the bigger picture, Bioheat is sourced and produced right here in the United States. Bioheat supports local farmers, local industries and a local economy. But that’s just the beginning. Consumers who use Bioheat benefit from:
The long-term expectation is that heating oil will eventually become a carbon-neutral fuel, thanks to a combination of higher bio blends, ultra-low-sulfur content and the introduction of super-high-efficiency equipment.
Soon, with the continuing improvement of heating oil, the carbon footprint of the fuel will be minimal and its greenhouse gas emissions negligible. The industry is on an exciting pathway to achieving this standard, which will keep heating oil at the forefront of the American energy revolution.
As a heating oil consumer, we hope you will keep on believing in the great value, safety and eco-friendliness of oil heat—as we have always done.
