New Bioheat® Fuel Mandates A Big Step Forward

Dear Friends,

It’s encouraging to see legislators in New York and Connecticut taking action to support Bioheat® fuel as a carbon-reduction strategy. New state mandates — signed into law by Connecticut and proposed in New York — will require heating oil to be a low-carbon fuel blend with a specified percentage of biodiesel, as of July 1, 2022. Starting with a minimum blend of 5%, the amount will increase to a minimum blend of 50% in about another decade.

For Westmore Fuel customers, the good news is that we are well ahead of the curve. Westmore has been delivering B20 Bioheat® fuel (20% biodiesel and 80% ultra-low-sulfur heating oil) since 2010! But we’re not stopping there; we are on our way to offering a B30 blend soon.

I encourage you to visit our website to read more about Bioheat® fuel, especially how it beats out natural gas and electric heating options.

In the meantime, if you need our help with a heating issue this fall or winter, remember that we are always on call for you.

Warmly,

Richard C. Bologna

Further Reduce Paper Clutter

A majority of our customers secure their pricing contracts online and have also set up automatic payments and electronic statements. This not only saves them time, it helps the environment by decreasing an enormous amount of paper waste.

Now we have another opportunity to cut down on paper clutter. Connecticut recently passed a law that allows fuel retailers like us to provide customers with an electronic delivery ticket instead of a paper one — with the customer’s consent, of course.

Under the law, which goes into effect on October 1, 2021, an electronic delivery ticket must contain the same information as a paper receipt and be provided within two business days of the fuel delivery. As with paper delivery tickets, Westmore Fuel must maintain a record of each electronic delivery ticket for at least 12 months.

We’ll be rolling out the option for electronic delivery tickets soon, so stay tuned for more details.

Training and More Training

To keep their technical skills on the cutting edge, our technicians receive ongoing education and training for all makes and models of oil heating equipment. This enables us to solve your problems faster and get it right the first time.

Recently, Energy Kinetics did a demonstration of its System 2000. With its hybrid-energy-recovery cycle, the System 2000 has the lowest overall standby heat loss (the heat lost up the chimney when a boiler turns off ) and the best annual efficiency performance of all heating systems tested to date. Customers have seen annual energy savings of up to 40%!

Please contact us if you would like a free estimate on a System 2000, which combines heat and hot water into one super-efficient system.

Read the quotes below to hear from two customers who really appreciate the Westmore Advantage.

“I came back from a weekend trip to find water on the basement floor and no heat. I called the Westmore service number Monday morning and had a service professional arrive in an hour. Problem found. Repair made. Heat on and water issue solved.”
— Walter R., Stamford, Connecticut

“I woke up this morning and had to take a cold shower, because there was no hot water. Tony D. carefully reviewed the system and found the problem. He is diligent, thorough and explains his findings in a comprehensive and easy-to-understand manner. I look forward to a hot shower tomorrow!”

Ask the Expert

Q: Is an electric heat pump better for the environment than heating oil?

A: Absolutely not. Electricity is not a clean fuel. Electricity production generates the second largest share of greenhouse gas emissions. More than 63% of our electricity comes from burning fossil fuels, mostly coal and natural gas.* In contrast, renewable fuels like our low-carbon B20 Bioheat® fuel, reduces greenhouse gas emissions right now, with even more reductions on the way.

We achieve these reductions for pennies per gallon versus the $20,000+ average cost of a whole-home conversion to heat pumps. Plus, a recent study showed that 9 out of 10 people who have converted to heat pumps keep their existing heating system (heating oil, natural gas, etc.) as a backup. And for good reason — 84% were unhappy with their heat pump’s performance in very cold weather.**

There isn’t that problem with oil heat. Heating oil systems produce much higher indoor air temperatures at an affordable cost, guaranteeing that you will keep your home toasty warm even during frigid winters. Highly efficient oil furnaces and oil boilers produce enough thermal energy to heat your home without the need for a backup system.

Plus, we don’t require carbon taxes to get people to use our product. Stay with us and you will continue to have access to the personalized customer service that we deliver every day.
